Within The Shadows
Book Summary
BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR
At just thirty-one, Andrew Wilson has it all: close friends, a great house in an Atlanta suburb, and a successful career as a mystery writer. Only one thing is missing--a special woman to share it with. Then one day he meets someone new; a woman who seems almost too good to be true.
Beautiful, smart and sophisticated, Mika Woods is everything that Andrew has ever wanted and more. For her, Andrew is willing to give up his life in Atlanta and move with her to mysterious family estate in rural Georgia--a place where, according to local legend, the creek runs strangely deep... the dark woods whisper..and at night, the dead sometimes walk.
It's a place Andrew never should have called home.. a place he may never leave/ For something evil lives there within the shadows. And what it wants, what it desires, it will have...

I happen to read this book due to curiosity. Way back in the summer of year 2010, my friend Nikko Martin bought this book along with him in our mini gathering. I then asked him if I could borrow the book and to my surprise, he told me I can keep it! In other words, he gave me this book.
I admit it, I am the type of person who easily freaks out especially when it comes to horror films and the like. With this book, I had the perception that I can't get over with it after reading. But no, sad to say I was wrong. This book is indeed spellbinding and I found myself turning the pages as fast as I can. I was hooked with the story. The scenes were unpredictable. From time to time, you'll feel varied emotions. The story is a perfect amalgamation of different genres, yes I swear! I never expected that in the long course of reading the book, I would feel the thrill, fun, excitement because all along, I was thinking that I wouldn't be able to finish the book in the first place due to its genre.
The conversations that took place between Andrew and his dad and among the other characters in the story were in fleshed just as the scenes were so realistic and imaginable. I found myself getting mad at Mika for she was such a psycho chic and I don't know why Andrew didn't notice or had the energy to stay away from her in the first place. Maybe because he was still hoping that Mika would be the woman of his life.
Compelling and exciting, you'll surely find yourself in a roller coaster ride while reading this book. It talks about love, revenge and forgiveness and in the end you'll realize that wishing for something must be taken with utmost care.
This is the first Brandon Massey book I have read and I say, the experience was indeed worth it.
Brandon Massey was born in June 9, 1973 and grew up in Zion, Illinios. Originally self-published, Thunderland, his first novel, won the Gold Pen Award for Best Thriller from The Black Writers Alliance. Brandon currently lives in Atlanta, where he is at work on his next supernatural thriller.
